2018 Ford Explorer Review
With seating options for seven, various engine choices, and plenty of room for cargo and passengers, the 2018 Ford Explorer makes for an impressive SUV. Traverse the roads of Lewisville, Denton, and Grapevine in a car you love to drive. That might just be the new Explorer, available at Sam Pack’s Five Star Ford Lewisville.
In this review of the Explorer, we’ll talk about the things that matter to drivers, like performance and tech features. Keep reading to educate yourself about this standout SUV.
The standard 3.5L V6 engine is powerful enough for drivers on the daily commute and even on weekend adventures. The V6 delivers 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque, and with the valve cam timing technology, performance is optimized to match driving conditions. There are a pair of other available engine options: the 2.3L EcoBoost® and 3.5L EcoBoost®.
Standard trailer sway control technology can brake and adjust engine power to maintain control of an attached trailer. The 2018 Ford Explorer can tow up to 5,000 pounds when it’s probably equipped. If towing is something you’re interested in, you’ll need to have the class III trailer tow package. This comes standard on the 3.5L EcoBoost® engine and is an available feature on the base edition of the Explorer, the V6.
Step Inside the Ford Explorer Cabin
We want you to be comfortable each time you’re inside the Explorer. The easiest way to do just that is to research the available options on every Explorer trim. With the Explorer Platinum, for example, the quilted premium leather seating and leather door inserts give the cabin a more luxurious feel. Available PowerFold third-row seats can be folded down at the press of a button to give you more cargo room.
Total cargo capacity checks in at just shy of 82 cu. ft., with room for items on trips both short and long. Whether you’re carrying sports equipment, groceries, bags from the store… you name it, and the Explorer can probably fit it. If you’re carrying items to the Explorer, the available hands-free liftgate is a useful tool. Just wave your foot in front of the rear bumper and the cargo area will open up for quick loading in.
Ford Tech Features
The available Ford Safe and Smart Package is truly revolutionary for drivers, combining a number of tech features. Rain-sensing wipers will turn on when rain is detected, while the automatic high-beam headlamps will adjust on and off and depending on traffic. The Blind Spot Monitoring technology, equipped with Cross-Traffic Alert, helps you see other vehicles that may be lurking in your blind spot.
Infotainment-wise, the available SYNC® 3 system offers voice-activated technology and an intuitive touchscreen. The base edition of the Explorer comes with a 4.2-inch touchscreen, but with SYNC® 3, drivers will have an 8-inch screen with navigation capability.
