In an effort to assist drivers during the cold winter months Ford has added a new cold weather package to the popular Ford Escape. New 2017 Ford Escape models equipped with the Cold Weather package include all-weather floor mats, heated side mirrors, heated seats and a supplemental powertrain conditioning heater. This convenient package comes standard on Ford Escape Titanium models, and is optional on SE models.
The cold weather package also includes a new windshield wiper de-icer designed to quickly free wiper blades frozen to the windshield. This new feature clears the windshield of snow and ice with the ability to melt light snow and ice from wiper blades in under 10 minutes at -18 degrees Fahrenheit. SYNC Connect-equipped vehicles can activate the de-icer from a smartphone, making it easier than ever to clear a windshield in freezing temperatures.
The de-icer works by using a heating element in the windshield glass where the wiper blades rest to melt the snow and ice. There is now no need to pull wiper blades off the windshield when parking your car, or worrying about chunks of ice getting stuck to the wiper blades and creating streaks.
“The windshield wiper de-icer is a great solution to one of the more nagging problems of winter,” said Ford fixed glass engineer Jennifer Gauthier. “Escape drivers in the U.S. are going to wonder how they ever got along without it.”
Ford plans on making the new windshield wiper de-icer available on more Ford vehicles in the United States soon. This convenient new feature along with the available Intelligent 4WD System that transfers power from front wheels to rear wheels as needed in slippery road conditions, make the new 2017 Ford Escape a perfect winter vehicle.
